I grew up on the central coast of California, and it was a great place to learn. When I was fourteen, I had finally saved up enough money for my first 35mm Minolta, and I took it everywhere with me. My senior year in high school, I took classes in Photography and Yearbook, and learned about digital photography and Photoshop. The summer after I graduated, I opened the phone book and began calling every photographer I could find, trying to get a job as an assistant to learn more about professional photography.
I began working with Nora Hernandez, the owner of a children’s photography studio called Bonnets & Lace. She taught me about studio lighting and working with children, and I loved it. I also assisted Amy Levinsohn, owner of White Wolf Studios, on the weekends. She taught me about wedding photography and using natural lighting for portraits. By the time I was seventeen, I was shooting weddings and portraits on my own for friends and family.
Then in early 2009, due to a difficult economy and lack of open positions, I realized that this was the perfect time to finally start my own business! I had been getting lots of referrals, and it made sense.
So, here I am! My favorite subjects are still weddings and children, but I love all kinds of portraits and working with all kinds of people.
